How We Began
Toolcypressway started in 2019 when our founder, Ji-hoon Seo, spent three weeks helping his elderly aunt locate savings certificates after his uncle’s sudden hospitalization. The certificates existed — scattered across four locations none of the surviving family knew about. That experience revealed a gap: Korean households accumulate offline reserves over decades, but rarely maintain a catalog that outlives the person who remembers where everything is.
Ji-hoon left a fifteen-year career in municipal records management to build a practice focused solely on household reserve documentation. He recruited two catalogers with backgrounds in archival science and family office administration. By 2021, Toolcypressway had completed over 200 home visits across Gyeongsangnam-do.
Our Approach
We treat every household as unique. A retired couple in Jinju with a safe deposit box and two property deeds needs a different catalog structure than a three-generation home in Masan with cash reserves, gold, and multiple insurance policies. Our layered backup methodology — primary record, sealed secondary, recovery summary — adapts to each situation rather than forcing a template.
We document. We organize. We plan backups. We do not sell financial products, manage assets, or provide legal counsel. Our catalogers carry no commissions and receive no referral fees.
The Team
Ji-hoon Seo — Founder and lead cataloger. Former senior archivist, Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Records Office. Certified in records management by the Korean Society of Archivists.
Eun-ji Han — Senior cataloger. Ten years in family office administration before joining Toolcypressway in 2020. Specializes in multi-generational households.
Sang-min Yoo — Cataloger and workshop facilitator. Background in adult education and community outreach. Leads family record workshops.
Values We Hold
Clarity over completeness anxiety. A catalog that covers ninety percent of your reserves with confidence is more useful than a perfect inventory that never gets finished.
Household sovereignty. Your reserves remain yours. We never take custody of items, copy account numbers without explicit permission, or share catalog contents with third parties.
Paper endures. Every session produces physical documents. Digital companions exist, but the authoritative record is always something you can hold during a power outage or family emergency.
Community
We publish field notes on reserve organization, contribute to local senior center information sessions in Changwon, and maintain referral relationships with estate attorneys who appreciate clients arriving with organized documentation.
